Privacy Safeguards

Privacy Safeguards

Definition: Privacy safeguards are technical, administrative, and organizational measures designed to protect personal or sensitive data from unauthorized access, misuse, disclosure, or inference. They ensure that systems handle data responsibly and reduce the risk of privacy breaches.

Context/Example: A company implements safeguards such as data minimization, encryption, Differential Privacy, Access Controls, and regular audits. For example, instead of storing full customer addresses, the system stores only what is necessary (e.g., ZIP code), and encrypts it both in transit and at rest. These measures limit how much information can be leaked or misused.
